Gantz (film)

Gantz is a Japanese science fiction action film series based on the manga series of the same name created by Hiroya Oku. The film series consists of two main installments: Gantz (2011) and Gantz: Perfect Answer (2011).

Gantz (2011) follows the story of Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato, two students who die while trying to save a homeless man on a subway platform. After their deaths, they are transported to a mysterious room containing a black sphere known as Gantz. Gantz tasks them, along with other recently deceased individuals, to hunt down and eliminate alien targets in Tokyo using advanced weaponry and suits provided by the sphere. The film explores themes of morality, sacrifice, and the value of life within a violent and surreal context.

Gantz: Perfect Answer (2011) serves as a sequel and conclusion to the initial film, expanding on the mythology of Gantz and further developing the relationships between the characters. It introduces new challenges and enemies, delving deeper into the mysteries surrounding the Gantz sphere and the purpose of the missions. While it draws inspiration from the manga, it features a distinct ending that deviates from the source material.

The films were directed by Shinsuke Sato and star Kazunari Ninomiya as Kei Kurono and Kenichi Matsuyama as Masaru Kato.
