Frank Coombs (politician)
Frank Coombs (1853-1934) was an American politician and lawyer. He served as a United States Representative from California's 1st congressional district for two terms, from 1887 to 1891.
Born in Napa, California, Coombs attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied law. After being admitted to the bar, he practiced law in Napa.
Coombs was elected to the California State Assembly in 1882, serving until 1884. He then successfully ran for Congress in 1886 as a Republican, succeeding William Starke Rosecrans. He was re-elected in 1888.
During his time in Congress, Coombs focused on issues important to his constituents in Northern California, including matters relating to agriculture and public lands. He was not renominated for a third term in 1890.
After leaving Congress, Coombs resumed his law practice in Napa. He remained involved in local politics and community affairs until his death in 1934. He is buried in Napa.
