Why (Canadian band)

Why was a Canadian alternative rock band active in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the band consisted of vocalist and guitarist Paul James, bassist Greg Lesiuk, and drummer Todd Hunter. They were known for their energetic live performances and blend of punk rock energy with melodic sensibilities.

Why released two albums, Room to Move in 1989 and Life After Cars in 1992. Both albums received positive reviews and garnered the band a dedicated following in the Canadian independent music scene. Room to Move spawned the singles "She Said" and "This One's Mine," which achieved moderate radio airplay. Life After Cars featured a more mature and polished sound.

The band toured extensively across Canada, playing clubs and festivals. They shared the stage with several notable Canadian bands of the era.

Why disbanded in the mid-1990s. Paul James pursued a solo career, while the other members remained active in the Winnipeg music scene, participating in various other projects. Although they achieved a degree of critical success and built a loyal fanbase, Why ultimately remained a relatively obscure band beyond Canada’s prairie provinces.
