Borbach (Ruhr)
Borbach (Ruhr) is the name of a stream located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is a right tributary of the Ruhr River. The Borbach flows primarily through the urban areas of Bochum and Essen.
Its course is heavily influenced by urban development and industrial activity that characterized the Ruhr region. Portions of the stream have been canalized or culverted, particularly within densely built-up areas.
The Borbach, like many streams in the Ruhr area, has been subject to efforts at ecological restoration in recent decades, aiming to improve water quality and create more natural stream habitats. These efforts often involve unearthing sections of the stream that were previously buried or channelized, and implementing measures to reduce pollution from surface runoff and industrial discharge.
