Tepoto (North)

Tepoto North is a small, uninhabited atoll located in the Disappointment Islands, which are a subgroup of the Tuamotu Archipelago in French Polynesia. Its coordinates are approximately 14°37′S 142°14′W. The atoll is low-lying and ring-shaped, enclosing a central lagoon that may or may not have an opening to the ocean depending on weather conditions.

The atoll is characterized by its relative isolation and remoteness, making it a haven for certain seabird populations. Vegetation is sparse and typical of low coral islands, consisting of coconut palms, shrubs, and grasses.

Tepoto North, being uninhabited, has no permanent infrastructure. Its economic activity is virtually non-existent. The island is primarily of ecological importance.

The Disappointment Islands were so named by European explorers because of the difficulty in finding fresh water or anchorage. Tepoto North shares this characteristic of limited resources.

The administration of Tepoto North falls under the responsibility of the French Polynesian government.
