RT (TV network)
RT (formerly Russia Today) is a Russian state-controlled international television network funded by the Russian government. It operates a number of channels broadcasting news, current affairs, and documentary programming to audiences outside of Russia.
RT is available in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Arabic, German, French, and Russian. It broadcasts via cable, satellite, and online platforms.
RT's stated aim is to provide a Russian perspective on major global events and to offer alternative viewpoints often absent from mainstream Western media. The network has been described as a propaganda outlet for the Russian government by numerous sources, including government officials, academics, and journalists. Critics argue that RT presents biased and misleading information to promote Russian foreign policy objectives and undermine trust in democratic institutions.
RT has faced numerous controversies related to its editorial content, including accusations of spreading disinformation, conspiracy theories, and pro-Kremlin narratives. It has been subject to regulatory scrutiny and sanctions in several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. Following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, several countries banned or restricted access to RT's broadcasts and websites.
