Ebraucus

Ebraucus was, according to Geoffrey of Monmouth's pseudohistorical Historia Regum Britanniae (History of the Kings of Britain), a legendary king of the Britons. He is said to have reigned for 39 years, succeeding King Mempricius. Monmouth places his reign around the 10th century BC.

According to the Historia, Ebraucus founded the city of Alclud (later Dumbarton) in what is now Scotland, and built the "Maidens' Castle" (presumably Edinburgh Castle). He also conquered Gaul (modern France) and built the city of Albalonga (probably Alba, Italy). The Historia Regum Britanniae claims he had twenty sons and thirty daughters with his wives. His daughters were sent to Italy to be married off to Trojan nobles descended from Aeneas, thus creating alliances. His eldest son, Brutus Green-Shield, succeeded him as king.

It is generally accepted that Ebraucus is a fictional figure, a product of Geoffrey of Monmouth's imagination or his adaptation of existing Celtic myths and legends. There is no independent historical evidence to support his existence or the events attributed to him. He is considered part of the Matter of Britain.
