Felicity (TV series)

Felicity is an American drama television series created by J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves, which aired on The WB from September 29, 1998, to May 12, 2002, for a total of four seasons. The series starred Keri Russell as Felicity Porter, a recent high school graduate who impulsively follows her crush, Ben Covington (Scott Speedman), to the fictional University of New York (UNY) in New York City, abandoning her pre-med plans in favor of exploring her artistic passions.

The show followed Felicity's journey of self-discovery as she navigated the challenges of college life, including relationships, academics, and finding her career path. Over the course of the series, other key characters included Noel Crane (Scott Foley), Felicity's resident advisor and eventual love interest, as well as her close friends Julie Emrick (Amy Jo Johnson), Elena Tyler (Tangi Miller), Meghan Rotundi (Amanda Foreman), and Sean Blumberg (Greg Grunberg).

Felicity was known for its realistic portrayal of college life and its focus on character development. The series employed a unique narrative device, using voice-over narration in the form of letters Felicity wrote to her friend Sally Reardon. The show also experimented with unconventional storytelling elements, particularly in its fourth season, which featured a controversial time-travel storyline.

The series garnered critical acclaim for its writing, acting, and direction, particularly in its early seasons. Keri Russell won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Drama in 1999 for her role as Felicity. Despite its critical success, Felicity faced fluctuating ratings throughout its run and was subject to cancellation several times. The show's cancellation after four seasons allowed the creators to craft a planned ending for the characters and their stories.
