Rakesh Kumar (kabaddi)
Rakesh Kumar (born April 14, 1982) is a former Indian professional Kabaddi player and coach. He served as the captain of the Indian national kabaddi team.
Kumar was a pivotal figure in the rise of kabaddi's popularity in India and internationally. He played as an all-rounder, known for his raiding prowess and strategic defense.
He represented India in numerous international tournaments, including the Asian Games and Kabaddi World Cups. He was a member of the Indian teams that won gold medals at the 2002, 2006, and 2010 Asian Games, and the 2004 and 2007 Kabaddi World Cups. His contributions were instrumental in these victories.
At the club level, Rakesh Kumar played in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), representing various teams. He was one of the highest-paid players in the early seasons of the league.
After his playing career, Rakesh Kumar transitioned into coaching. He has held coaching positions with different kabaddi teams, sharing his experience and knowledge of the game with aspiring players. He also briefly worked as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Haryana.
