Mu River
The Mu River (Burmese: မူးမြစ်, romanized: Mū mrac) is a river in Myanmar (Burma), originating in the hills of the Sagaing Region and flowing southwards to join the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River near Myinmu. It is an important tributary of the Ayeyarwady and plays a significant role in the agricultural and transportation sectors of the region it traverses.
The Mu River valley is a fertile agricultural area, supporting rice cultivation and other crops. The river is also used for irrigation purposes. Historically, the river has been a vital transportation route, connecting various settlements along its banks.
Concerns regarding deforestation in the watershed area and its impact on the river's flow and water quality have been raised in recent years. Efforts are underway to promote sustainable land management practices to protect the river's ecosystem and the livelihoods of communities that depend on it.
