Mallya
Mallya refers most commonly to Vijay Mallya, an Indian businessman and former politician. He is best known as the former chairman of the United Breweries Group, an Indian conglomerate with interests in alcoholic beverages, aviation infrastructure, real estate, and fertilizers. He also founded Kingfisher Airlines, a now-defunct airline that played a significant role in the Indian aviation sector before its financial collapse.
Mallya's career has been marked by both significant entrepreneurial success and substantial controversy. His business ventures, particularly United Breweries, achieved considerable market dominance. However, his stewardship of Kingfisher Airlines led to its eventual grounding and resulted in substantial debts owed to various banks and creditors.
Subsequently, Mallya became the subject of legal proceedings in India related to allegations of financial irregularities and loan defaults. He left India in 2016 and has since resided in the United Kingdom, where he has been engaged in a protracted legal battle against extradition back to India. The Indian government seeks his return to face charges related to financial offenses.
