Pyronema is a genus of ascomycete fungi belonging to the family Pyronemataceae. These fungi are typically coprophilous or pyrophilous, meaning they thrive on dung or burnt ground, respectively. They are characterized by their small, cup-shaped apothecia (fruiting bodies) that are often brightly colored, ranging from orange to red.

Pyronema species are saprophytic, playing a role in the decomposition of organic matter. They are found globally in suitable habitats. Microscopic examination is usually required for definitive species identification, focusing on characteristics such as ascospore size, shape, and ornamentation, as well as features of the asci and paraphyses. Some species can be identified by their distinct colony morphology on agar plates in laboratory settings.

Commonly encountered species include Pyronema omphalodes, a frequent colonizer of burned-over soil after fires.
