Liverpool (2008 film)
Liverpool is a 2008 Argentine drama film directed by Lisandro Alonso. The film tells the story of Farrel, a quiet and reserved sailor who works on a merchant ship. He abruptly decides to disembark in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in Argentina, and journeys inland to find his estranged family in a remote, snow-covered logging community.
Farrel's goal is to visit his mother and see his daughter, who has Down syndrome. The film unfolds slowly and deliberately, with long takes and minimal dialogue, reflecting the harshness of the environment and the internal life of the protagonist. The film is known for its stark realism, minimalist narrative, and atmospheric cinematography. Liverpool explores themes of family, isolation, and the difficulty of connection. The film avoids dramatic exposition, allowing the viewer to piece together Farrel's history and motivations through his actions and interactions.
