Petar Stojanović (composer)
Petar Stojanović (September 7, 1877 – September 11, 1957) was a Serbian composer and violinist of considerable renown in the early 20th century. Born in Budapest, Austria-Hungary (now Hungary), he spent much of his career in Belgrade, Serbia. Stojanović's compositions encompass a variety of genres, including operas, operettas, symphonic works, chamber music, and vocal pieces. He is particularly known for his operettas, which were popular throughout Europe. His works are characterized by their melodic richness, vibrant orchestration, and a strong sense of national identity, often incorporating elements of Serbian folk music. Stojanović was a professor at the Belgrade Music School, and his influence extended to many younger generations of Serbian musicians. While his works are not as widely performed today as they once were, he remains a significant figure in Serbian musical history and is recognized for his contribution to the development of Serbian classical music.
