Peter Johnston (footballer, born 1959)
Peter Johnston (born 7 May 1959) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder.
Johnston began his career with St Mirren, making his debut in 1977. He quickly established himself as a key player for the club, known for his energetic performances and combative style. He was a member of the St Mirren team that won the Scottish Cup in 1987, defeating Dundee United 1-0 in the final.
After a successful spell at St Mirren, Johnston moved to Partick Thistle in 1988. He continued to play regularly for the club before retiring from professional football in the early 1990s.
Since retiring, Johnston has remained involved in football at a local level. He is remembered as a hard-working and committed player who made a significant contribution to St Mirren's success in the 1980s.
