Masahiko Kimura (bonsai artist)

Masahiko Kimura (木村 正彦, Kimura Masahiko, born 1940) is a Japanese bonsai artist known for his innovative and sometimes controversial approach to bonsai design. He is often referred to as the "Magical Technician" due to his exceptional skills in manipulating and shaping trees.

Kimura revolutionized bonsai in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, moving away from the traditional, highly stylized forms to create more naturalistic and dynamic compositions. He is particularly known for his use of deadwood (jins and shari) to accentuate the age and character of his trees. His techniques often involve dramatic carving, wiring, and grafting, resulting in bonsai that are visually striking and often evoke the feeling of trees struggling to survive in harsh environments.

Kimura's work has been featured in numerous bonsai publications and exhibitions worldwide.
