Hafnir

Hafnir is a small town and former municipality located on the Reykjanes peninsula in southwestern Iceland. It is situated near the Keflavík International Airport and Grindavík. Historically, Hafnir was a fishing village, relying primarily on the Atlantic Ocean for its livelihood.

The name "Hafnir" is Icelandic and translates roughly to "harbors" or "havens." This name likely references the naturally occurring inlets and coves that provided shelter for fishing boats.

In 2006, Hafnir merged with Njarðvík and Keflavík to form the municipality of Reykjanesbær. While no longer an independent administrative entity, Hafnir retains its distinct identity and character within the larger municipality.

The area around Hafnir features rugged lava fields and coastal landscapes typical of the Reykjanes peninsula. The town itself offers a relatively quiet residential environment, contrasting with the busier airport and the industrial activities of nearby Keflavík.
