Nebwenenef

Nebwenenef was an ancient Egyptian official who lived during the late 18th Dynasty and early 19th Dynasty, specifically under the reigns of pharaohs Akhenaten, Tutankhamun, and possibly Horemheb. He held various important positions in the royal administration.

Nebwenenef is primarily known for his role as the High Priest of Anhur (Onuris) at Thinis (modern-day This), a significant cult center in Upper Egypt. Anhur was a war god and patron deity of the region. Holding this position, Nebwenenef wielded considerable religious and political influence.

Beyond his religious duties, Nebwenenef also held other titles indicative of his administrative authority. These included titles related to overseeing agricultural production and managing royal estates. The exact nature and scope of his responsibilities are still debated among Egyptologists, but it is generally accepted that he was a powerful and influential figure during a turbulent period of Egyptian history, transitioning from the Amarna period under Akhenaten and back to traditional religious practices under Tutankhamun.

Evidence of Nebwenenef's existence and activities comes from various sources, including inscriptions on statues and other monuments discovered in and around Thinis. These inscriptions provide valuable insights into his career and the religious and political landscape of the time.
