Nemesis (board game)
Nemesis is a semi-cooperative science fiction horror board game for 1-5 players designed by Adam Kwapiński and published by Awaken Realms. Players take on the roles of crew members aboard a spaceship, the Nemesis, which has been damaged during a hyperspace jump.
The game is characterized by its high level of player interaction, tension, and theme. Players are not strictly allied and each has secret objectives to achieve. These objectives often conflict, creating suspicion and the potential for betrayal. Some objectives require direct cooperation, while others incentivize working against fellow crew members. The true loyalty and intentions of each player are often shrouded in uncertainty.
The primary threat in Nemesis comes from Intruders, alien creatures that infest the ship. Players must manage the Intruder threat by fighting them, repairing the ship, and gathering information about the situation. The game features a dice-based combat system and a deck of Intruder cards that introduce new enemies and events.
Nemesis incorporates elements of hidden traitor games, exploration games, and survival horror. Players explore the ship one room at a time, revealing the layout and discovering items. They must carefully manage their resources, including ammunition, medical supplies, and oxygen. The game also features a noise mechanic, where certain actions attract the attention of Intruders.
The game ends when the Nemesis either arrives at Earth (or Mars, depending on the objective) or self-destructs. Players score points based on whether they achieved their secret objectives and whether the ship and its occupants have survived. Victory is not guaranteed, and it is possible for all players to lose.
Several expansions have been released for Nemesis, adding new characters, Intruders, and gameplay mechanics.
