Malcolm Johnston (jockey)
Malcolm Johnston (born c. 1956) is a former champion Australian jockey. He is best known for his association with the legendary racehorse Kingston Town.
Johnston began his apprenticeship with legendary trainer Tommy Smith. He quickly rose to prominence in the Sydney racing scene, becoming known for his aggressive riding style and strong finishes.
His most significant victories came aboard Kingston Town. Johnston rode Kingston Town in 30 of his 41 starts, including all three of the horse's Cox Plate victories (1980, 1981, and 1982). Their partnership became one of the most celebrated in Australian racing history.
Other notable wins for Johnston include the Sydney Cup, Australian Derby, and Rosehill Guineas. He was a multiple Sydney premiership winner.
Following his retirement from race riding, Johnston transitioned into media work, providing commentary and analysis for racing broadcasts. He remains a respected figure within the Australian racing industry.
