Institute of Solid State Physics (Russia)

The Institute of Solid State Physics (ISSP) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) is a leading research institution in Russia dedicated to fundamental and applied research in the field of condensed matter physics. Founded in 1963 in Chernogolovka, Moscow Oblast, the ISSP conducts studies on a wide range of topics, including:

  • Condensed Matter Theory: Developing theoretical models and computational methods to understand the properties of solids, liquids, and other condensed phases.
  • Materials Science: Synthesizing and characterizing new materials with unique physical and chemical properties, including nanomaterials, semiconductors, superconductors, and magnetic materials.
  • Experimental Solid State Physics: Investigating the structural, electronic, optical, magnetic, and thermal properties of materials using a variety of experimental techniques.
  • Nanotechnology: Exploring the synthesis, characterization, and applications of nanomaterials and nanostructures.
  • Low-Temperature Physics: Studying the behavior of matter at extremely low temperatures, including superconductivity, superfluidity, and quantum phenomena.

The ISSP is actively involved in international collaborations with research institutions around the world and plays a significant role in the advancement of solid state physics and materials science. The institute also provides educational opportunities for students and young researchers. It is considered one of the premier solid state physics research centers in Russia. Its activities contribute significantly to both fundamental scientific knowledge and the development of advanced technologies.
