Mayday (British TV series)
Mayday is a five-part British crime drama television series, broadcast on BBC One in March 2013. Created and written by Ben Court and Caroline Ip, the series revolves around the disappearance of a young girl, Hattie Sutton, during the annual May Day celebrations in a seemingly idyllic rural community. The investigation, led by DCI Sam Greenwood (played by Sophie Okonedo), uncovers a web of secrets, lies, and hidden tensions within the village, revealing that the close-knit facade masks a darker reality. Each episode focuses on a different suspect and their potential connection to Hattie's disappearance, exploring themes of community, paranoia, and the fragility of innocence. The ensemble cast includes Peter Firth, Aidan Gillen, Lesley Manville, and Max Fowler. While initially promoted as a whodunit mystery, the series shifts its focus towards the psychological impact of the disappearance on the community and the exploration of various characters' motives and secrets. The ambiguity of the ending and the lack of a definitive resolution regarding Hattie's fate proved divisive among viewers.
