Joseph Lambeth

Joseph Lambeth (born August 25, 1840, died August 14, 1902) was a Confederate States Army officer during the American Civil War. He is primarily remembered for his command of Fort Fisher during the Second Battle of Fort Fisher in January 1865. Despite a valiant defense, the fort fell to Union forces, a significant blow to the Confederacy as it severed a crucial supply line. Lambeth was subsequently taken as a prisoner of war. Prior to the war, he was a planter in North Carolina. After the war, he returned to farming. He is often considered a figure of Southern resilience and remembered for his military service in the Confederate cause.
