Zhang Wu

Zhang Wu (張武, active late 2nd century CE) was a Yellow Turban rebel leader during the late Eastern Han dynasty in China. He, along with Zhang Mancheng, was one of the early prominent leaders who initiated the Yellow Turban Rebellion in the Nanyang area. He is primarily known for his participation in the initial uprisings, specifically in the attack and seizure of Wancheng (宛城, present-day Nanyang, Henan). Historical records regarding Zhang Wu are scarce beyond his involvement in the early stages of the rebellion. After the death of Zhang Mancheng, the Yellow Turban rebels in Nanyang chose Zhao Hong as their new leader, suggesting that Zhang Wu was either killed in battle, died of other causes, or relinquished his position for reasons not recorded in extant historical texts. His actions contributed to the widespread unrest that significantly weakened the Han dynasty.
