Tipasa (moth)
Tipasa is a genus of moths in the family Erebidae. Within Erebidae, it belongs to the subfamily Arctiinae, also known as tiger moths or woolly bears. Moths in the genus Tipasa are generally found in Southeast Asia and Australia. Characteristics of Tipasa moths, as with many Arctiinae, often include brightly colored wings, serving as a warning (aposematism) of their unpalatability to predators. Further specific details, such as larval host plants and detailed morphological features, vary by species within the genus. The name Tipasa itself does not appear to have a direct etymological connection to a particular place or attribute obvious within readily available resources. More in-depth taxonomic research is often required to fully understand the relationships and characteristics of individual species within the Tipasa genus.
