Hugh Bethell (died 1679)
Hugh Bethell (died 1679) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1654 and 1679.
Bethell was the son of Sir Walter Bethell of Alne, Yorkshire. He served as a commissioner for the assessment of Yorkshire from 1649 to 1652 and for the North Riding from 1657 to 1660.
In 1654, Bethell was elected Member of Parliament for the North Riding of Yorkshire in the First Protectorate Parliament. He was re-elected MP for the North Riding in 1656 for the Second Protectorate Parliament and in 1659 for the Third Protectorate Parliament.
After the Restoration, Bethell was elected MP for Hedon in 1660 for the Convention Parliament. He was elected MP for Pontefract in 1661 for the Cavalier Parliament and sat until 1679.
He died in 1679.
