John Mills (Calvinistic Methodist minister)
John Mills (1765-1845) was a prominent Welsh Calvinistic Methodist minister. Born in Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire, he underwent a conversion experience as a young man, deeply influenced by the preaching of Howell Harris and Daniel Rowland. He began preaching around 1789 and was ordained in 1811. Mills was known for his powerful and passionate sermons, often delivered in both Welsh and English, and he travelled extensively throughout Wales, spreading the Calvinistic Methodist message. He was instrumental in establishing new chapels and societies. Mills was also a keen advocate for education and played a role in promoting Sunday Schools. His writings, mostly sermons and devotional pieces, contributed to the body of Calvinistic Methodist literature. His ministry was characterized by its emphasis on personal piety, doctrinal purity, and evangelistic fervor.
