Robert Colville (died 1584)

Robert Colville (died 1584) was a Scottish landowner and courtier. He was the son of James Colville of East Wemyss and his wife, Katherine Forrester, daughter of Sir Walter Forrester of Garden.

Colville was involved in Scottish politics and served as a Gentleman of the Bedchamber to King James VI. He was also frequently employed on diplomatic missions.

His lands and titles included the Lordship of Ochiltree, acquired through marriage, and he was often referred to as Lord Colville of Ochiltree, although the title wasn't formally granted to him.

Robert Colville married Margaret Lindsay, daughter of David Lindsay, 9th Earl of Crawford, and their marriage significantly improved Colville's social standing. They had several children, including James Colville, who later became Lord Colville of Ochiltree.

He died in 1584, leaving his estate to his heirs. His involvement in court life and marriage into a powerful family secured a prominent position for his descendants in Scottish nobility.
