Mother (South Korean TV series)
Mother, also known as 마더 in Korean (RR: Madeo), is a 2018 South Korean television series directed by Kim Cheol-kyu and starring Lee Bo-young, Heo Yool, and Lee Hye-young. It is a remake of the 2010 Japanese television drama of the same name.
The series tells the story of Soo-jin, a temporary teacher at an elementary school, who notices the abuse inflicted upon one of her students, Hye-na. Feeling a deep connection and driven by maternal instinct, Soo-jin impulsively decides to abduct Hye-na and become her mother, fleeing to escape the abusive situation.
The drama explores themes of motherhood, abuse, societal neglect, and the definition of family. It follows Soo-jin and Hye-na as they try to build a life together while evading the authorities and Hye-na's biological mother.
The series was praised for its strong performances, emotional depth, and its sensitive portrayal of child abuse. It garnered critical acclaim and several awards, including Best Drama at the 6th APAN Star Awards.
