Ted Stamm
Ted Stamm (1944 – 1985) was an American minimalist artist known for his geometrically abstract paintings and drawings. He is often associated with the minimalist and conceptual art movements of the 1970s and 1980s in New York City.
Stamm's signature works often featured elongated, horizontally oriented shapes he termed "Dodgers," which he presented in various series, including Wooster Street Dodgers and Dodger Speedway. These works were often rendered in monochrome palettes, exploring subtle variations in tone and surface texture.
His practice also extended to drawings and site-specific installations. Stamm's art explores themes of speed, motion, and the urban environment, often reflecting his personal experiences navigating the streets of New York. He died at a relatively young age, and his work has gained increasing recognition posthumously.
