Sima Nan
Sima Nan (司马南), born Yu Li (于力) in Bin County, Heilongjiang Province, China, is a Chinese social commentator, journalist, and television personality known for his staunch support of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and criticism of the United States and Western ideologies. He is often described as a left-wing nationalist and a prominent figure in the Chinese "Maoist revival" movement.
Sima Nan gained prominence in the 1990s for his anti-pseudoscience activism, particularly his debunking of alleged paranormal phenomena and qigong masters. This work earned him considerable media attention and public recognition.
Over time, his focus shifted to criticizing Western political and economic systems, advocating for a stronger role for the Chinese government, and promoting traditional Chinese values. He is a frequent commentator on current affairs, both online and on television, expressing views that align closely with the official CCP line.
Sima Nan's outspoken and often controversial opinions have made him a polarizing figure in China. While he has a large following among those who share his nationalistic views, he is also subject to criticism for his perceived lack of objectivity and his role in promoting government propaganda. He has faced scrutiny regarding his family's alleged assets in the United States, a contradiction that his critics highlight given his strong anti-American stance. Despite these criticisms, Sima Nan remains a prominent voice in Chinese media and continues to be a significant influence on public discourse.
