Prie-dieu

A prie-dieu, also known as a prayer desk or kneeling bench, is a piece of furniture designed for kneeling while praying. It typically consists of a low, padded kneeling surface and a higher support for resting the elbows or holding a book.

The word "prie-dieu" is French, meaning "pray [to] God." Prie-dieux are most commonly found in churches or private chapels but may also be used in homes. They are often ornate and decorated with religious symbols. The purpose of a prie-dieu is to provide a comfortable and dignified posture for prayer, encouraging reverence and focus.
