A2 road (Botswana)
The A2 road is a major highway in Botswana, running in a broadly east-west direction across the southern part of the country. It connects key urban centres and provides a vital transport link for commerce and travel.
The A2 begins in Lobatse, near the border with South Africa. From Lobatse, it travels generally north-west towards Jwaneng, a town renowned for its diamond mine. Continuing on from Jwaneng, the A2 proceeds to Kang, a settlement in the Kalahari Desert. Beyond Kang, the road eventually reaches Ghanzi, a significant town in western Botswana.
The A2 road is generally well-maintained, but road users should be aware of the long distances between settlements and the potential for encountering wildlife, particularly at night. Filling stations and other services are available in the major towns along the route, but planning and preparation are essential, especially when travelling in the more remote sections. The road plays a crucial role in facilitating economic activity and connectivity within Botswana.
