Perry Mason (TV film series)

The Perry Mason TV film series is a collection of 30 made-for-television movies aired on NBC from 1985 to 1995. They revived the popular fictional criminal defense lawyer Perry Mason, a character created by Erle Stanley Gardner, after the original Perry Mason television series starring Raymond Burr ended in 1966.

Raymond Burr reprised his role as Perry Mason in the new series, continuing the character's established traits of intelligence, tenacity, and unwavering commitment to defending the wrongly accused. Following Burr's death in 1993, the final four films featured Paul Sorvino and Hal Holbrook as lawyers who took over cases previously intended for Mason.

The films generally followed a similar formula to the original series. Mason typically investigated a murder, uncovered crucial evidence, and confronted the real killer in a dramatic courtroom showdown. Barbara Hale also reprised her role as Della Street, Mason's loyal and efficient secretary. William Katt, Hale's son in real life, played the role of private investigator Paul Drake Jr., son of the original series' Paul Drake.

These films were a significant success for NBC, capitalizing on the nostalgia for the original series and Burr's iconic portrayal of Perry Mason. The Perry Mason TV film series contributed to the enduring popularity of the character and demonstrated the continued appeal of classic courtroom drama. The films are also notable for their guest appearances from various well-known actors.
