João Alves (footballer, born 1952)

João Alves (born 5 December 1952), is a retired Portuguese footballer who played as a midfielder.

Alves spent the majority of his career in Portugal's Primeira Liga. He began his professional career with Varzim SC, before moving to Boavista FC, where he enjoyed considerable success. He then transferred to S.L. Benfica, further solidifying his reputation as a talented midfielder.

During his time with Benfica, he was a key player, contributing significantly to their league titles and other domestic trophies. He was known for his skillful dribbling, passing range, and tactical awareness.

After Benfica, he also played for other Portuguese clubs, including União de Leiria and ending his career back at Boavista.

Alves was also a Portugal international, earning caps for the national team. He represented Portugal in various international competitions.
