Luís Cabral (economist)
Luís Cabral is a Portuguese economist specializing in industrial organization, competition policy, and innovation. He is currently a Professor of Economics at New York University's Stern School of Business.
Cabral's research focuses on understanding firm behavior in markets, with particular emphasis on topics such as pricing strategies, research and development incentives, network effects, and the dynamics of competition. He has made significant contributions to the literature on intellectual property rights, the economics of platforms, and the design of auctions.
Cabral holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University. Prior to joining NYU Stern, he held positions at the London Business School and Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He has published extensively in leading academic journals, including the American Economic Review, the RAND Journal of Economics, and the Journal of Industrial Economics.
He is the author of the textbook Industrial Organization: Competition, Strategy, Policy, which is widely used in undergraduate and graduate courses. He has also served as an advisor to various governmental and international organizations on competition policy issues. Cabral is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR).
