New Model Army (band)
New Model Army are an English rock band formed in Bradford, West Yorkshire, in 1980 by lead singer, guitarist and principal songwriter Justin Sullivan, bassist Stuart Morrow, and drummer Phil Tompkins. Sullivan has been the only constant member of the band. Their music draws influences from punk rock, new wave, folk rock, and hard rock, evolving over their career while retaining a distinctive sound.
New Model Army's lyrics frequently address themes of social justice, anti-establishment politics, and personal introspection. They achieved critical acclaim and a devoted cult following throughout the 1980s, particularly in Europe, with albums such as "Vengeance" (1984), "No Rest for the Wicked" (1985), and "Thunder and Consolation" (1989).
The band has released numerous studio albums, live albums, and compilations. Their lineup has changed several times throughout their history, with notable former members including Robert Heaton (drums), Nelson (bass), and Michael Dean (drums). Despite never achieving mainstream commercial success in the traditional sense, they have maintained a significant and dedicated fanbase worldwide. They continue to tour and record, remaining relevant in the alternative music scene.
