Andrew Bell (judge)

Andrew Scott Bell is an Australian jurist who serves as the 20th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. He assumed office on March 8, 2022.

Prior to his appointment as Chief Justice, Bell served as President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal from 2019 to 2022. He was first appointed to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2012 as an Associate Judge. He was later elevated to the Court of Appeal in 2016.

Bell received his legal education from the University of Sydney, graduating with degrees in Arts and Law. He also holds a postgraduate law degree from the University of Oxford, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. Before his judicial career, he practiced as a barrister, specializing in commercial law. He was appointed Senior Counsel (SC) in 2007.

Throughout his career, Bell has been involved in various legal and academic activities. He has lectured at universities and contributed to legal scholarship through publications and presentations. His areas of expertise include contract law, corporate law, and equity.
