Maggie (1981 American TV series)
Maggie was an American sitcom that aired on ABC from March 7 to April 18, 1981. The series starred Miriam Flynn as Maggie, a witty and opinionated middle-aged housewife living in suburban New Jersey.
The show revolved around Maggie's daily life, her interactions with her husband, Norman (played by James Cromwell), her children, and her friends. Much of the humor stemmed from Maggie's sharp observations and often sarcastic commentary on the world around her. She was depicted as a strong and independent woman, not afraid to speak her mind, even if it meant going against societal norms.
The supporting cast included Julio Medina as Angel, the family's handyman, and Doris Roberts as Loretta, Maggie's best friend.
Despite a strong cast and writing team, Maggie struggled to find an audience and was canceled after just six episodes. While short-lived, it is remembered as a notable example of a sitcom featuring a female protagonist who defied traditional stereotypes of women on television at the time. The show's cancellation is often attributed to its placement in a difficult time slot and lack of promotion by the network.
