Hanuabada
Hanuabada is a Motuan village located in Papua New Guinea, near Port Moresby. It is historically significant as one of the largest and most important Motuan villages, and its name translates to "Great Village" in the Motu language. The village is built on stilts over the water, a traditional architectural style adapted to the coastal environment. Hanuabada has played a central role in the cultural and economic life of the Motu people, particularly through the Hiri trade cycle, a long-distance trading voyage that connected the Motu with other communities along the Papuan coast. Modern Hanuabada has seen significant changes due to urbanization and development pressures, but efforts are ongoing to preserve its cultural heritage and traditional way of life. The village remains a prominent feature of the Port Moresby landscape and an important symbol of Motuan identity.
