HMS Cumberland (1803)

HMS Cumberland was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched in 1803. She was built by Barnard, Deptford. Her design was based on the common class of British 74-gun ships which formed the backbone of the Navy during the Napoleonic Wars.

She saw active service throughout the Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812, participating in various blockades and engagements. Details of specific battles and her crew during these periods can be found in contemporary naval records and historical accounts.

Following the end of the Napoleonic Wars, HMS Cumberland was placed in ordinary, a state of reserve. She was later used for harbor service and other non-combatant roles before eventually being broken up. The exact date of her decommissioning and breaking up would require further research in Admiralty records. The Cumberland represents a typical example of the workhorse warships that maintained British naval dominance in the early 19th century.
