An Inspector Calls (2015 Hong Kong film)
An Inspector Calls is a 2015 Hong Kong thriller film directed by Herman Yau, and starring Louis Koo, Eric Tsang, Teresa Mo, Hans Zhang, and Karena Lam. It is a remake of the 1954 J.B. Priestley play of the same name, set in Hong Kong. The film transposes the play's original Edwardian England setting to modern-day Hong Kong.
The film revolves around the wealthy and influential Kwok family, who are visited by a mysterious Inspector (played by Louis Koo) investigating the suicide of a young woman. As the Inspector interrogates each member of the family and their associates, their secrets and complicity in the woman's death are gradually revealed. The film explores themes of social responsibility, class inequality, and the abuse of power.
Unlike the original play, the film adds a more explicitly supernatural or metaphysical element, leaving the audience to question the true nature of the Inspector and the reality of the events that transpire. This ambiguity is a key characteristic of the film adaptation.
