Emma (manga)

Emma is a historical romance manga series written and illustrated by Kaoru Mori. It is set in Victorian London during the late 19th century and follows the love story between Emma, a maid, and William Jones, a member of the gentry class.

The story explores the societal constraints and class differences that complicate their relationship. Emma, initially working as a maid for a retired governess named Kelly Stownar, is portrayed as a reserved and intelligent woman. William, from a wealthy and respected family, defies societal expectations to pursue his feelings for Emma.

The manga is known for its meticulously detailed artwork, accurately depicting the fashion, architecture, and social customs of Victorian England. Beyond the central romance, Emma also depicts the lives and struggles of other characters within different social strata, providing a glimpse into the social dynamics of the era.

The series was serialized in Enterbrain's Comic Beam magazine from 2002 to 2008. It has been collected into ten tankōbon volumes. An anime adaptation, produced by Pierrot, aired for two seasons in 2005 and 2007 under the title Emma – A Victorian Romance.
