Jean Milo

Jean Milo (1906-1984) was a Belgian Surrealist painter. Born in Saint-Gilles, Brussels, his work is characterized by its meticulous detail, technical mastery, and often dreamlike or unsettling subject matter.

Milo studied at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. He was associated with the Belgian Surrealist group, though his style remained distinct. His paintings frequently feature meticulously rendered objects, figures, and landscapes that are juxtaposed in unexpected and often disturbing ways. He frequently incorporated symbols and allegorical elements into his compositions.

While Milo's work shared affinities with the Surrealist movement's exploration of the subconscious and the irrational, his approach was less overtly confrontational than that of some of his contemporaries, such as René Magritte.
