Camilla (1994 film)
Camilla is a 1994 drama film directed by Deepa Mehta and starring Jessica Tandy, Bridget Fonda, and Elias Koteas. The film follows the unlikely friendship between Camilla Cara (Tandy), an aging, eccentric violinist, and Freda Lopez (Fonda), a young artist struggling with her career and her relationship.
The film's narrative centers on Camilla's desire to return to Toronto, her former home and the site of significant personal memories. Freda accompanies Camilla on this journey, acting as her caretaker and confidante. During the road trip, Freda learns more about Camilla's past, including her passionate and ultimately tragic love affair.
The film explores themes of aging, art, memory, passion, and the power of female friendship. It was one of Tandy's last film roles before her death later that year. Camilla received mixed reviews upon its release.
