Burntisland, Kinghorn and Western Kirkcaldy (ward)
Burntisland, Kinghorn and Western Kirkcaldy is a multi-member ward within the Fife Council area of Scotland. It is used for local government elections to elect councillors to Fife Council. The ward was created in 2017 following a review of electoral arrangements and replaced the previous Burntisland, Kinghorn and Western Kirkcaldy ward.
The ward encompasses the towns of Burntisland and Kinghorn, as well as the western portion of Kirkcaldy, including areas such as Auchtertool. Its boundaries are defined by geographic features and align with existing community council areas where possible.
Elections within the ward are conducted using the single transferable vote (STV) system, meaning voters rank candidates in order of preference. This system is designed to achieve proportional representation, ensuring that the composition of the council reflects the overall preferences of the electorate. The ward typically elects three or four councillors, depending on the specific electoral arrangement in place at the time.
The elected councillors represent the interests of the residents of Burntisland, Kinghorn, and Western Kirkcaldy within Fife Council. They are responsible for decision-making on a wide range of local government matters, including education, social services, planning, and environmental issues.
