Vicência
Vicência is a municipality in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. It is located in the Zona da Mata Norte mesoregion and the Mata Norte microregion.
History
The settlement of the area that is now Vicência began in the 17th century. The fertile lands were attractive for sugarcane cultivation, and a chapel was built in honor of Nossa Senhora da Penha. Over time, a small village grew around the chapel.
Vicência was officially elevated to the category of a municipality in 1893, separating from the municipality of Nazaré da Mata.
