G-Land

G-Land, also known as Grajagan Bay, is a world-renowned surfing location situated on the Plengkung Peninsula, part of Alas Purwo National Park, East Java, Indonesia. It is famous for its consistently long and powerful left-hand reef breaks, attracting experienced surfers from around the globe.

The name "G-Land" is generally attributed to the letter "G" in "Grajagan," though other explanations exist, including references to the location's original name, G-Landak (Landak being the Indonesian word for porcupine).

The wave at G-Land is primarily a left-hand reef break, characterized by its significant length, powerful barrels, and consistent swell. It offers several distinct sections with names like Kong's, Moneytrees, Speed Reef, and Chickens, each presenting different levels of difficulty and wave characteristics. These sections can provide rides of up to a kilometer in length.

Access to G-Land is typically via boat from Bali or through overland routes involving travel through Alas Purwo National Park. Accommodation options range from basic surf camps to more comfortable lodging, typically located close to the beach.

The surfing season at G-Land typically runs from April to October, coinciding with the dry season in Indonesia when consistent swells generated in the Southern Ocean reach the Javanese coast.

The isolated location within a national park necessitates certain precautions regarding health and safety. Malaria and other tropical diseases are potential risks, and appropriate preventative measures are advised.
