The Monk (1969 film)

The Monk is a 1969 British horror film directed by George Breakston and starring Franco Nero, Nathalie Delon, Nicol Williamson, and Elke Sommer. It is based on Matthew Lewis's gothic novel The Monk, published in 1796.

The film follows Ambrosio (Nero), a Capuchin monk in Spain who is renowned for his piety and charisma. He is tempted by Matilda (Delon), a mysterious novice who disguises herself as a man to enter the monastery. As Ambrosio succumbs to temptation and indulges in increasingly depraved acts, he descends into darkness and ultimately makes a pact with the Devil.
