Blackfriars (SER) railway station

Blackfriars (SER) railway station was a short-lived railway terminus in London, England. It was opened by the South Eastern Railway (SER) on 1 June 1864 as the City Terminus. The station was located on the south side of the River Thames, near the present-day Blackfriars station.

The SER built the station as an extension of its existing line from London Bridge, bridging the Thames. It offered services to destinations in Kent and southeast England. The station included a large roof, several platforms, and passenger facilities.

The station proved unsuccessful and was closed to passengers on 1 January 1869. This closure was due in large part to the opening of the London, Chatham and Dover Railway's (LCDR) Blackfriars station (originally St. Paul's) in 1864, which was more centrally located and offered better connections. The SER subsequently concentrated its London operations at Cannon Street station, which opened in 1866.

Following its closure to passengers, the SER station continued to be used for goods traffic for a number of years. Eventually, the station was demolished to make way for the construction of the LCDR's Blackfriars Bridge railway station, which opened in 1886. No trace of the original SER station remains today.
